Regional Transportation

The Regional Transportation program is a transportation planning program sponsored by the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments (AVCOG) which provides transportation-related technical support and planning assistance to the non-metropolitan communities in AVCOG’s Western Maine region (Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties). The Regional Transportation Program staff work closely with the AVCOG Transportation Committee which was formed to identify regional transportation issues and opportunities.

The AVCOG Transportation Committee is comprised of elected and appointed municipal officials, representatives of regional environmental, business and alternative transportation entities, and other interested parties. The Regional Transportation program and the AVCOG Transportation Committee regularly partner with the MaineDOT in its transportation planning efforts.

Reports and municipal transportation studies completed by the Regional Transportation program can be found in the Documents section of this website. Questions about the Regional Transportation program should be directed to, Joan A. Walton, AICP, Regional & Community Transportation Planner.

Strategic Investments

In October 2006, the AVCOG Regional Transportation Strategic Investments were prioritized and adopted by AVCOG. The Regional Transportation Strategic Investments identify the highest priority multi-modal transportation projects of regional and/or statewide significance in the Western Maine region. The Regional Strategic Investments were developed in partnership with MaineDOT and are intended to assist MaineDOT in determining how best to invest state and federal infrastructure and planning resources in the Western Maine region over the next 20 years.
